    Description

The story told about this case was from a U.S, Army medic that had returned from Afghanistan.  He had cared for some of the villagers in a Pastun village and the village head wanted to give him something in return.  He gave him this case saying that during one of the British invasions of Afghanistan in the late 1800's a young British officer was killed and his Webley pistol and this map case were taken.
It is a very nice object and well cared for.  It appears to be made from brass and copper or bronze and copper.  It seems to have hindu characters on the sides as well as some hindu writing as shown in the 3rd and 4th pics.  I don't know what the writing says.  I would guess that the case was made in India and that the young British officer had been assigned there and brought the case to Afghanistan during that campaign.
The 7th pic is of the end of the case that has a very shallow dent, almost unnoticeable.  It's a rather ornate design well worth collecting.
