You are bidding on a set of thirteen (13) 7” x 3-1/2” stereopticon view cards showing the Mississippi River showboatDixie Queen
. These cards were custom-prepared in 1984 using images copies from
TRU-VUE
subject #1309
Mississippi River Showboat
which was originally released around 1940. The images on these cards were later used to illustrate the article
Showboat
, which appeared in the January-February 1985 issue of
Stereo World
magazine.
When viewed through a stereopticon viewer, these images will appear in 3-D.
The
Dixie Queen
was built at Kansas City, Missouri in 1939.
A small boat with a seating capacity of only 540, she had a well-equipped stage and living quarters. Her usual territory was Kansas City and surrounding districts, although, in 1940 she journeyed down to New Orleans for the Mardi Gras season.
Her trouping career ended in 1943 when she was sold and converted into an excursion boat. (For more information on showboats, read Philip Graham’s
