c1865 Victorian Mourning 14k Gold Onyx Black Glass Brooch Pendant
Presented is a lovely Victorian 14 karat gold and onyx or black glass brooch/pendant. This piece is American and dates to around 1860-1870. The pin is done as a beveled oval of onyx or black glass surrounded by diamond shapes in the same material. The gold setting of the onyx/glass has a fine milgrain finish. The brooch has an old 'C' style clasp as well as a loop at the top so it can be worn as a pendant.
The pin is in good overall condition. The onyx or glass has a few little nibbles here and there, but nothing noticeable or significant. The clasp functions well. There are no breaks and no repairs.
This piece is not stamped, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14 karat gold, except for the shaft of the pin which is not gold.
The pin measures about 1 1/4 inches by 1 inch.
This piece weighs 4.8 grams.
