Heart Shaped Wood Silverware Chest
This is an amazing chest from days gone by when craftsmanship was foremost among artisans. I’m not an expert on woods, but I think this is mahogany. It has some dings but is still beautiful. These heart shaped chests are fairly rare, I’ve only seen 3 or 4 in all the time I’ve been doing silverware.
The chest is lined with a red felt-like material that was “Kenized ,” a process that helps prevent tarnish. The lining is in good condition and displays very nicely.
When I purchased this chest it had a fabulous set of Silverplate in the Community Evening Star pattern. I don’t think the silver could have been used even a dozen times, it is in such lovely condition. I don’t know if the Kenized material still has the properties to resist tarnish, but the silverware that was stored in this chest doesn’t have any tarnish.
